GB'S Turkey & Shoe Drive 2018
Without a doubt, the holiday season is the busiest time of the year. As the season changes from Summer to Fall, we all become occupied with holiday shopping, decorating our houses, and organizing family dinners. As Thanksgiving has become the first celebration during this season, families prepare their dinners, say their prayers, and enjoy the hot yummy turkeys!
During this time, we may forget the ones who don’t share the same privileges as most. We should always remember the ones that are less fortunate that do not get the opportunity to share a single hot meal.
This Thanksgiving GB’S decided to help change that.
GB’S has never been shy of Giving Back to the society. On Tuesday, November 20th GB’S Sneakers partnered up with Professional BMX Athlete, Nigel Sylvester, to hand out approximately 300 turkeys to the local community, just in time for Thanksgiving.
It was a fun-filled event. Maracas Grill was kind enough to sponsor fresh and hot food for all who attended. Children to senior citizens and everyone in between, were seen enjoying the live music provided by Elite Event DJ’s. We also had multiple raffles and gave free gifts to everyone who supported. All proceeds from the raffle tickets will be going towards our Holiday Charity Project which will take place at the end of December.
A huge thank you to all who donated their gently worn shoes. Nigel Sylvester and GB’S matched the shoe donations with brand new pairs. ‘It’s From The Sole’, a Non-Profit Organization with whom we teamed up with, was very pleased to receive these shoe donations for the homeless.
The event was filled with a positive vibe. It was great to see people from all walks of life come together to support a great cause. Countless people walked away with not just free food and gifts, but with a sense of unity and love. It would be right to say that this was a great kick-start to the holiday season!
With Basketball being one of the most popular sports in the USA, GB’S got the opportunity to sponsor the Crunch Time Basketball Tournament. The tournament took place on November 25th. The winning teams were provided with free sneakers. It’s amazing to be involved in the youth and to promote them to stay active and healthy.
There are millions of homeless people around the globe, with New York City being the 2nd largest city in the USA of homeless people.
As someone wisely once said said, “Santa Claus is Real”. He is the Christmas spirit that resides in all of us. This Christmas let us all keep Santa alive and be his little helpers in spreading joy and warmth, one city at a time.
The GB’S team will be putting together care packages that cost $10. They will consist of a blanket, a pair of gloves, a pair of socks, chapstick, a toothbrush and toothpaste, Kleenex, and two cans of food. We will be going around the city and handing out these Care Packages to the people who are unable to find shelter during this time.
Every child deserves a toy. We will also be collecting new toys and/or toys in ‘good-condition’ at all four of our locations. Toys will be collected for a Very Special Christmas Event that will take place in our Jamaica Colosseum Mall location in Queens, on December 18th.
As the saying goes, “What Goes Around Comes Around”. Let us all spread joy and cheer this holiday season.
