Air Max 98 OA GS "La Mezcla"
This years “On Air” version of the Nike Air Max 98 is carrying New York on its back in a very detailed and creative way. Designed by local New Yorker Gabrielle Serrano, “La Mezcla” Air Max 98 is the sneaker this city never knew it needed.
Representing New York from heel to toe, this sneaker comes with a message. Gabrielle wanted her design to represent those who makeup the city, mainly immigrants. She did this by using different colored skin tones for the swatches that cover the upper from light to dark. The mudguard is a crackled grey color to symbolize the cement of the concrete jungle. The sneaker even features the actual longitude and latitude of NYC as well as a picture of the map on the inner sole. She decided to accent the shoe with bright minty green and light blue laces, and compasses on the tongue to pay tribute to the Statue of Liberty. Gabrielle wanted this shoe to honor those who make their way to New York because that is what makes our city a true melting pot.
