Another Saturday, another release. Dropping this Saturday, January 19th, is the Men's and Boy's Air Jordan Retro 4 30th Anniversary "Black Laser". Not surprisingly, this is a very special edition of the legendary Retro 4 that seems to make a statement each and every decade.
The original Jordan 4 debuted in 1989 and was the first Jordan to feature an over molded mesh. It's safe to say that Tinker Hatfield wanted to switch it up following the massive success of the Retro 3 and focus on performance and ingenuity. The original AJ Retro 4 went for $110 and wasn't so widely received at first. It wasn't until a few years later that it really stirred up a frenzy and this new design followed suit.
The 30th Anniversary "Black Laser" 4 features a combination of new and old elements. In 2005, Jordan released a "Bred" and "Fire Red" color way, and in 2015 the Retro 4 featured a silver and white makeup. The laser etching detail that surrounds the "Black Laser" Retro 4 is reminiscent of the two anniversary editions that came before it, telling the story of Michael Jordan's victories from over the years. They managed to even update the design for this version by printing it instead of etching it into the leather on the upper, which results in a raised look. If there's anything we can all learn from Jordan it's that it's all in the details. Combine that with the black leather, gum bottom, and pop of white, and you have a hit.
We received an insane amount of requests and interest leading up to launch day. Customers were already planning to get a pair for themselves and a friend or family member. It's safe to say the hype and legacy surrounding the 30th Anniversary Air Jordan Retro 4 is more than enough to sell itself, the design is an added bonus.
